Harbor Family Services
Memo from Jack E. Mazzotti III
President & CEO

The mission of Harbor Family Services is to promote the growth, development and strength of Maine children and families

As we begin the fiscal year and as fall approaches, I want to present a brief overview of Harbor Family Services (HFS) and our strategic vision.

HFS continues to be a leader in providing behavioral healthcare to children and families in Maine. As you know, HFS is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). This summer COA conducted their two year inventory on how HFS is meeting the standards of accreditation. HFS again passed their scrutiny without any weaknesses. Well done to all!

HFS remains fiscally sound and we were able to negotiate an even better health care plan than we had last year. All of our programs are doing very well, which means those children and families that need our help are getting it.

I want to take a moment to thank all of you who work so very hard for the families and children that we serve and to briefly reflect on this past year. It gives me pause to consider a year in which, despite the many obstacles that appeared before us, we continued to keep an eye on our mission and the very reason for our existence: to promote the growth, development and strength of Maine children and families.

I would like to share with you a quote for you to think about:

“It’s not a successful climb unless you enjoy the journey.”

Through it all, Harbor Family Services has persevered in these times of significant cuts to education and mental health. We have had to make some tough decisions but in the end 2009 was a year of growth, development and strength for our families and our agency, and let’s pray and work together to make sure 2010 will be as well.
