The Family Centered Therapy Program is an intensive therapeutic service for children and their families. This program was created to meet the needs of children with serious emotional disorders. Family involvement is key to the success of this service and parents are involved in all aspects of the treatment. Services are provided in the setting that is most convenient to the family whether in-home or in the community. This short-term intensive service normally lasts from 1-6months.
Eligibility for this service is determined by the state and the managed health care company they have hired to administer the service. They will authorize services if the child's behavior has caused significant problems in their home, school or community and a lower level of care such as counseling in an office setting as not been successful. Children who are being discharged from a crisis unit, residential program or hospital service also may receive services. The child referred must have MaineCare, be between 0-20 years old and have a DSM IV diagnosis or a DC 0-3 diagnosis which has lasted or is expected to last for one year.
The FCTP program helps families focus on ways to work together to address problems a child is having. Research has shown that Children do better when their parents learn ways of working together to help their child. We have also learned that children do better, for longer, when they learn new skills with their family. This program focuses on addressing the needs of the family rather than limiting the focus to the child with behavioral issues.
You may contact us directly to make a referral or you may request that your caseworker or other provider contact us on your behalf. We will forward your referral to Central Enrollment (MaineCare's referral service). Central Enrollment will contact you by mail of all approvals and denials.
