Harbor Family Services provides Residential Treatment for up to 30 children as well as Home Based Services to as many as 22 children and families in the greater Rockland and Bangor areas. We accept referrals from any source but typically referrals are made to us from the 2 Maine State Juvenile Corrections Facilities (Mountain View and Long Creek), Drug Courts, Probation Officers, Community Mental Health Workers and Department of Health and Human Services Caseworkers. Harbor Family Services accepts referrals statewide.
The children that are referred to Harbor Family Services for help suffer from severe emotional problems as a result of mental illness, developmental disabilities and an array of traumatic and often times horrific life experiences. These experiences vary for each child however often times include substance abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse or sexual abuse. Without exception all of our children are survivors in their own way who have had someone in their life recognize that they need help coping with their disabilities and violent and abusive pasts rather than punishment for the provocative and sometimes outrageous behaviors that result from these pasts.
Harbor Family Services offers an array of specialized and unique programming including co-occurring residential and community based treatment for children and families struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Our work with families is intensive in nature reflecting our commitment and mission to promote the growth, development and strength of Maine Children and Families. We strive to be a quality leader in the provision of residential and community-based behavioral health services, and as such rely heavily on our core values to guide us in our work.
